Bhutanese U-16 cricket team in Penang, Malaysia played their last group match against Maldives but could not come across the result due to rain. Bhutan and Maldives shared one each point to finalize the contender for semi. Bhutan and Maldives are in equal points but due to Bhutan maintaining better net run rate (NRR), let Maldives out of tournament.
Bhutan won the toss and elected to field first. Maldives played 26.4 overs and scored 87 runs on the Board and 23 runs coming from extra. Nasir Naswan (18) was the higher scorer from Maldives batters. Bhutan’s Yogesh took 3 for 26 runs in 8 overs and Sagar, Jigme and Ugyen took 2 wickets each.

During the interval, Bhutan’s coach, the legendary Baba Sourjah was speaking about his team’s lack of match-experience. “They’ve hardly played any games and the Maldives bowlers are floating the ball high. What we need to do now is move our feet, play straight and stay in the middle as long as we can to win this.”

With the playing conditions stating that a minimum of 16 overs are needed to be completed in a game for it to be declared a match – the game was three overs short of being declared eligible for a result. Bhutan now progress to the semi-finals on July 17th and face the team that tops Group B.
