Bhutan Cricket has started school cricket tournaments in Thimphu district from last Saturday 28th August 2008.On Saturday three matches were conducted at Changlimethang ground and two at Jigmethang.

The tournament is categorized in five groups (U16/U19 Girl’s and Class (V&VI)/ (VII&VIII) (U19) Boy’s) and is being conducted in two grounds, Jigmethang and Changlimethang. Bhutan Cricket is providing coaches, bus fare and equipments for participating schools. Yangchengaytshel LS School and Pelki High School are the two new schools participating in these tournaments for the first time. All the matches will be conducted during weekends and government holidays to avoid disturbances in academic. Bhutan Cricket will be selecting 30 players from the tournament for the U-13 and U-19 categories to nurture and train them throughout the year so that they can compete for the selection.

Same kind of tournament will also take place in Paro, Sarpang and Punakha later this month. The first match was played between Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School and Dechencholing Middle Secondary School in U19 Category at Jigmethang and Lungtenzampa won by 8 wickets. On Sunday 29 August 2010 Nima Higher Secondary School, the last year champion lost to Yangchenphu by 6 wickets.
In the second day of the tourney was played between Changangkha Lower secondary School class V-VI boys and Jigme Losel Primary School. Changangkha whitewashed Jigme Losel on a bright sunny Sunday. Jigme Losel won the toss and opted to field first, Changangkha could manage to put up 61 score on the board and got rid of Jigme Losel at 32 runs winning by 29 runs.

On the same day Chodden Lower Secondary School’s U-16 girls won a dramatic game defeating Changzamtog Lower Secondary School by 11 runs. Chodden made 97 runs and Changzamtog could manage to score 86 runs. The third game was played between Changbangdu Primary school and Loseling Middle Secondary School. Changbangdu made 103 runs and Loseling got all out in just 64 runs. Changbangdu won the match by 39 runs.

In one of the most competitive group, the U-19 boys which are being held at the Jigmethang ground at Dechencholing river side ground. The defending champion Nima Higher Secondary School cruised easily over Motithang Higher Secondary School by 65 runs. Nima scored 172 runs and in return Motithang manage to put up 107 runs.
