BTCL opening batsman Bikash says we could have won the match easily but excessive fielders inside 30 yards (attacking fielding) and conceding 17 extras was the main cause of losing the match.

BCCB Twenty20 Championship has started from 16th April 2011 at Jigmethang Thimphu. The first match was played between Dot Com and BTCL. BTCL won the toss and opted to bat first. In the third ball of first over, opener Tandin was drop at slip of Susil’s off break bowl by Kinley but took the wicket of Bikash in his fifth ball while he tried playing from the top was brilliantly caught at cover by Jigme Singye. BTCL’s second wicket fell of Sanjog Chettri in 2 over bowl by Tandin Wangchuk the slow medium pacer when score was 18 runs on the board. Tandin without having sense of Jigme’s bowling challenged to cut the first ball to finer, fell to connect the willow was clean bowled at 7 runs. BTCL losing early wickets was put on pressure and even they were struggling to maintain the run rate while Dot com bowlers gifted some extra runs to BTCL’s score board ticking. Tshering Tashi was looking solid with his batting but partnership was poor from BTCL lower order batsmen. Dot Com’s Nima Dai who is a veteran player showed up an excellent performance by taking 3 wickets in his first over. Nima Dai took 3 for 16 runs. BTCL’s Ugyen Dorji who batted at number 8 was the pick of the batsmen by contributing 18 runs. BTCL scored 100 runs for 10 wickets in 18.2 overs. 77 runs came from the bat and 33 were extras.

Looking at the fast out field and the size of the ground the score was not enough especially comparing with Dot Com’s solid batting order. Dot Com’s opener Susil stated with boundaries 4, 6 and 2 runs in consecutive balls of BTCL opening bowler Tenzin but in the fourth ball Susil was trapped Leg before Wicket (LBW). Tshering other opener was accompanied by Kinley Wangchuk. Kinley was looking rock-solid hammering balls to boundaries but from other side Tshering fell to furnish partnership was caught at mid-off by Ugyen in Tenzin bowl. Captain Jigme was send straight away to pavilion by Barun in his first ball while Jigme hitting straight giving easy catch to Barun. In receive of Jigme’s wicket, BTCL suddenly finding confidence within themselves took other 4 more wickets by conceding just 25 runs. Dot Com was 61 for 8 wickets in 9 overs. Kinley was only batsman from the top order who contributed 24 runs.
It was clear and confirmed that the game was BTCL’s but 40 runs partnership coming from the eight and nine batsmen surprised the both teams and the spectators.

It was Ashish and Hem who played sensible cricket to bring victory for the Dot Com. Ashish scored 22 runs and Hem adding 15 runs. Dot Com captain says Twenty20 is all about contributions and that way we can become champion. In the afternoon match Rigsum CC faced Royal Thimphu College. Rigsum opted to bat and scored 216 runs in 20 overs for fall of 6 wickets. Rigsum’s Kencho scored 50 runs, Manoj 44 runs and Sonam Togay with 49 runs. RTC bowlers took 1 wicket each. RTC was all-out for 62 runs in 15 overs. Rigsum Captain Sonam Tobgay took 5 wickets for 8 runs in 4 overs. Rigsum CC won by 151 runs. Sonam Tobgay was awarded Man of the Match.
